General Electric supplied equipment for a gas turbine power plant built in Dashoguz (Turkmenistan)
Erection of the simple-cycle power plant with total output of 254.2 MW began in March, 2006...
According to the contract, construction is being carried out by General Electric (USA) in cooperation with Chalyk Energy (Turkey). In February 2006, this alliance commissioned the similar gas turbine power plant near Ashkhabad.
Two 9E gas turbine units rated at 157.1 MW will be installed at Dashoguz power plant. Gas turbine units of this model are recognised to be reliable and cost-effective. The world’s first 9E gas turbine unit was manufactured in 1978. 390 units are now in service and their total accumulated operating experience is over 16 million hours. 9E gas turbine units have a typical General Electric assembly: a 17-stage axial compressor with compression ratio 12.6, a 14-chamber cannular combustor and a 3-stage power turbine.
Construction of the power plant, valued at 120 million dollars, is scheduled to be complete by October 2007. It will generate 2,226,792 kW-hr of electricity a year.
Currently, electricity to the Dashoguz region is supplied by the Maryiskaya state district power plant and Seydinsk TETs heat and power plant, located in the south-east of the country. The installed capacity of the 6 power plants operating in Turkmenistan is approximately 3311.4 MW. In 2005 production of electricity in the country reached 12.8 billion kW-hr. That is 7% higher than the level of the previous year. Approximately 1.3 billions kW-hr were exported to Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan. |
